Distress Signal

Description

‘Distress Signal’ is a top-down shooter set in a science fiction setting. The player must go through each of the two levels, firstly activating the shuttle at the end of the first level which then takes them to the final level. Both areas include a mix of enemy classes which complement each other’s ranged and melee capabilities. Each area also includes a number of temporary pickup abilities as well as varying weapon types.

Design Challenges

Two of the biggest challenges during this project was team management and AI implementation. As this was a group project, the tasks that had to be accomplished by the tech team I was assigned to manage needed to be delegated in accordance with the level of knowledge of each of the different team members. The three main areas were weapons/pickups as they interacted with the player in a similar way; UI Design and AI. My own role consisted of assisting the other members of the group as well as primarily designing and implementing AI and managing tasks through the collaborative management software JIRA.
